The Year of Body Positivity and Diversity and Beyond

This year marked three years of sobriety, and six years of being off drugs. My mental health has taken hits left and right, but as the years progress I learn to adapt to my brain’s needs. We work together like a dysfunctional team and at this point in my life I couldn’t be happier with where I’m at. Yes, things could be better. Yet I won’t complain because it could be so much worse. While I still think about alcohol and drugs daily, my darker thoughts are fewer and farther between. Days can pass without thought of self-harm. Again, I have adapted to my brain’s, shall we say, eccentricities.

2018 has turned into an amazing year. I lived my dream of writing full-time and while I believe my time is limited in that aspect I enjoyed the months with nothing but words to toil away upon. There is no way to thank my readers enough for reading my stories and embracing bodies in all their shape and sizes, shades. When I branded myself as a body positive author to describe the characters I wrote, but it was a label I always wore no matter the tales I told.

Depression, Failing Self-Care & What's Left

It could be the holidays or just my usual mental state, but depression has been nipping at my heels for months. Several weeks ago, it sunk its teeth in and hasn’t let me go. I believe mental illness shouldn’t come with a stigma—some stupid reason we shouldn’t speak up.

As an Atheist, I’m not big on holidays or what they mean. Christianity pillaged pagans for their traditions, whatever, but it’s around this time everyone gets a bit down. We don’t have family to spend it with for whatever reason. It highlights our anti-social tendencies. Whatever it is, holidays just seem to exacerbate the shifting of our moods.

I don’t think that’s what has me down. Spending days in bed to awaken and just turn back over because I’m tired of existing. A week ago, I had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital, my panic attack didn’t come on with that annoying tightening of my chest and the bugs crawling beneath my skin. The nosebleed which isn’t a normal part of my attacks. It hit me like a sledgehammer and I had no way of controlling it. All the counting, visualization, none of it worked and I let others see the weakness.

The Struggle of Being an Inferior Storyteller

I debated long and hard about writing this post, but I had a need to get my thoughts out. If I deemed to post it than that’s why you’re reading it now. Let me start at the beginning, when I started this creative process of putting words to paper. Yes, I started writing back in the day when it was nothing but notebooks and those chunky word processors. Not everyone had a computer or internet, that was mainly for libraries and school computer labs.

I fell in love with the written word early in life due to my dad’s parents. I’d go to their house every weekend or every other, each night they’d lie down in bed before going to sleep to read and it was the start of a lifelong habit. Yet I didn’t read kid books, they loved detective stories and horror. I don’t know if I even understood them or the words, but I remembered loving them. It was getting lost in worlds where the good guy always won. I developed a fascination with Zane Grey and the mystique of the old west.

When people ask when I knew I wanted to be a writer, I always say at 8 when I wrote the worst poem know to the literary world. And maybe it did start there, but my life changed with one book. Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs. He created a gritty world with all the nastiness and horror, surreal and realism combined. All I knew is I wanted to write one day. Be a published author.

Body Positivity/Diversity and Me

I've mentally planned this post and, also, rethought it hundreds of times. To start, let me explain a few things and why body positivity means so much to me not only as a person but also as an author. Picture if you will, a thirteen year old girl with already crippling body issues suddenly develops curves she's not ready for. She becomes painfully aware of the glances or outright stares she receives in gym class running laps. Those looks that follow the up and down motion as if watching a tennis match laying down. Said girl is fat and to her at that moment being fat, being female is one of the worst things she can imagine. How would that shape a persons body image for later in life? I'll answer that: badly.

The Body Positive Movement isn't anything new its just garnered more attention as models of size make themselves more visible. It's visible for the fact that body image shapes more than how we view ourselves but others as well. Those thoughts exist as a reflection of the insults we force upon ourselves, we use as judgements of others and what we say whether verbally or mentally about the way a person should be.

BLURB

Insanity was in the eye of the beholder.

Harmon Little was a surveillance expert. He lived in the shadows, and he liked it there. There wasn’t a place he couldn’t get in and out of without detection. As usual with his mischievous nature, his current assignment went south, and he ran. He thought he was free and clear until he knocked someone over in a grocery store aisle.

Sanity wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.

Solomon “Solo” Poe was counting calories. Working out until he fell into bed hungry and exhausted. He was plain and pudgy, plus he couldn’t remember when he’d last gone on a date. He wanted more than the occasional, lights out, one-night stand. So, he was going to lose the weight and find himself a man. At least that was the plan, then a big man with a huge smile tried to kill him in a store aisle. There was one thing he was sure of, Harmon was his.

THIS TITLE CONTAINS VIOLENCE THAT SOME READERS MAY FIND OBJECTIONABLE.

EXCERPT

“Talk to me.”

“I like you.”

He didn’t know how he felt about the misery that stained those three words.

“I like you too. So what's wrong?”

Harmon didn’t speak just seemed to choke down the rest of his food, and he did the same. He stood and started to clear the table. He froze with the plates in his hands as Harmon grabbed his hips. He dropped them back onto the table with a clang and let the big man tug him down onto his lap. Harmon’s fingertips stroked across his cheek.

“You smell so sweet.” Harmon’s voice broke.

He closed his eyes as the tip of Harmon’s nose moved along his jaw and down to the side of his neck. A shiver worked through him.

“So soft.”

He felt a tug on his bow tie, and then Harmon started to work the buttons of his shirt loose.

“May I just touch you?”

He turned his head, his mouth met Harmon’s, and the man’s scruff was rough against his smoother skin. He realized with awe that he wasn’t the only one shaking. Harmon’s breath roughly shuddered over his lips. Harmon held himself so tense that his muscles strained and shook.

“Poe, please.”

Something about the begging tone tinged with too much desperation broke him. Harmon shouldn’t believe he had to plead for affection or the right to touch. As far as he was concerned, everything he was belonged to Harmon.

“Yes.”

Harmon’s big hand slipped under the soft linen of his shirt. Harmon squeezed and stroked, pinched his nipples. The man didn’t hurry. It was almost as if Harmon savored the moments as if that would be the only time he’d allow Harmon to touch him. He wanted more than a make-out session or some one-night stand. They’d only known each other a few months, but he felt closer to Harmon than he had to anyone else in his life.

Taking chances hadn’t always worked in his favor, but he didn’t want to bypass the possibility of a relationship with Harmon because he was scared of ruining a friendship. He’d seen the interest and heat in Harmon’s eyes as the man studied him. Noticed all the aborted attempts at touching him. Harmon had reached out to him so many times only to stop himself and pull away in every way. The emotional retreat hurt him the most.

“I love touching. Do you want to touch me?”

He frowned at the fearful question. Harmon waited for him to say no and he had no intention of doing that. He stood, and the devastation on Harmon’s face broke his heart.

“Take your shirt off, Harmon.” Harmon hesitated, and he wasn’t having that. “Now.”

Harmon’s hands trembled as they picked apart the buttons of the wrinkled shirt he wore. He groaned as Harmon exposed his dark skin covered with thick curls. He cataloged scars and a single mole on his right shoulder. The man was physically perfect, and he still didn’t understand why Harmon wanted him.

He wasn’t going to question it because above everything—including his fear—he wanted to love on this sweet, adorable and insecure man. He didn’t close the distance between them until Harmon dropped the shirt to the floor. He moved in close until he pushed his knees against Harmon’s and the man parted his legs. He stepped between them.

He let his gaze move over Harmon from his bright jade eyes down to the man’s fisted hands on his thick thighs. He raised his right hand and pulled his tie off, and he held it out to Harmon.

“Do you want it?”

Harmon quickly grabbed it and tucked it into the pocket of his jeans. Hiding it as if he’d take it away. He felt powerful and sexy at the heat of Harmon’s gaze observing his every movement. The curve of his belly, the slight softness of his chest didn’t matter as he removed his shirt. He dropped it. No one had ever looked at him the way Harmon was doing.

He brought his hands to Harmon’s scruffy cheeks and bent forward until his mouth touched Harmon’s.

Harmon sat stiffly with his hands still clenched on his thighs.

“Don't you want to touch me?”

“Yes.”

“Then why aren't you?”

For the first time, he didn't feel insecure about his weight, softness or his thick-framed glasses. Harmon waited for his permission or orders. It was a powerful knowledge.

“I don't want you to go away.”

“I'm not going anywhere, baby,” he whispered before he took Harmon’s lips.

Blurb, Notes, Etc.:

Zain was just a dog walker. It was an unconventional job for a werewolf, even a brand new one, but he liked dogs and they liked him. It only seemed to make sense… right up until the point a vampire called him in to take care of his human pup. When his life collided with Liam and Caleb’s, none of them were prepared for the directions it could take.

Especially Zain.

But between the sexy pup and the vampire’s creativity, the power struggles pitting dominance against submission — and acceptance — the two might be too intriguing to just walk away from…

When M.A. Innes, bestselling author of sweet taboo romance, and R. Phoenix, author of playful dark erotica, paranormal romance, and horror team up, you should leave your expectations at the door. The duo responsible for Almost Strangers, a sweet contemporary romance with more than a few taboo themes, has collaborated again to bring you something from the other side of the force.

That said, here are a few notes from Raissa:

This is not an alpha / omega / beta tale, at least not in the usual sense (designation at birth, slick, heats, mpreg, primary focus on the werewolf part, etc.). Alas, “Alpha” in this universe is completely different and refers more to status. I hope you’ll give it a shot anyway, but please don’t expect A/B/O dynamics! (Though there are plenty of Big Os in here. Just saying.)

To M.A. Innes’s Readers:
I’ve temporarily corrupted your favorite author. Don’t worry; it isn’t permanent. Seriously, though, please do not go into this book thinking it is a typical M.A. Innes book. It isn’t. Innes is writing in my world — and my world is a much darker place. The warnings are there for a reason, darlings!

To R. Phoenix’s Readers:
Hello, my loves! It’s great to (finally!) get back to Caleb and Liam. Thanks so much for being patient. I know it’s been a while, but I hope you’ll agree this was worth the wait. You know the drill — this is playful dark erotica, emphasis on the dark. If you’ve read Puppy, you’re (probably) ready for Alpha. ;-) Give a warm welcome to Zain!

Other Notes:
*This is the sequel to Puppy by R. Phoenix, which should be read first. Sorry, loves, it’s definitely not a standalone.
*(Warnings/Potential Spoilers) Prepare for M/M/M, puppy play, body modification, humiliation, dehumanization, and other stuff I’m forgetting about right now. Not every dynamic or element is 100% consensual.

R. Phoenix

R. Phoenix (code name: Raissa) has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, humor and pain, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes love can corrupt, power can redeem and that the best of intentions can cast shadows while the worst can create light. She agrees with those who say that the truth is best told through fiction — even though fiction has to make sense while reality can be utterly baffling.

She loves chatting with readers, though she often awkwardly rambles. No matter how much she tries to keep her bad and often perverted sense of humor in check, it seems to escape at the most inconvenient moments. (Thanks, universe.) New Release Timeless Surrender by Torie James

Timeless Surrender Book Blurb:

History branded him a coward. Prophecy labeled her his destruction. Some legends are born of lies. Others begin when the lies end. And not everything remains myth...

"If you could live forever, what would you choose to live for? I chose power..."

Born of darkness and raised on revenge, Mordred Lothian spent an eternity fighting for the honor of a woman who had none. Free of her hatred, his only goal is to pick up the pieces of betrayal and attempt to forge a new life in a world that never wanted him.

Raised by one of Hollywood's most scandalous actresses, Jenalyn Rhodes knows true illusion begins when the end credits roll. Damaged by the one person who should have protected her most, she is determined to have no master and only one mistress: Herself.

Thrown together to stop an ancient evil hell bent on vengeance, can the sacrifice of one be the salvation of the other?

Excerpt:

Twenty minutes later, freshly shaven, squeaky clean, and dressed in his standard uniform of blue jeans and t-shirt, Mordred took himself to the kitchen to grab a drink.

"Question. You and Bri have Fae mothers and the same human father. How come she's got magic hands and you don't?"

Suddenly, she appeared at his side.

He blinked at her in surprise, damn near choking on his juice.

"What?"

"Do you have magic like Bri?"

"Uh, well. Nosy, much?"

"Very. Look, I didn't ask for this hoopla but since I'm in the thick of it, I'd like to know some things, yeah?"

"Fair enough. Truth is, Morgan told me that on my birth, my powers had been drained by Anwyn since he felt me to be a curse on the lineage. She promised once she took the throne that they'd be restored."

"Were they?"

"No. She lies a lot."

"Well, that sucks."

"The only powers I ever got from her came when she offered me immortality. After that, I did have some abilities such as mind control, speed and glamour. Same abilities my sister and her friends have. To give Morgan a little credit, she did teach me some bargain basement magic. Nothing to write home about. I don't like to use them much. And I refused to use it when engaged in battle. There's no honor in wielding magic against those who have none."

"So, what kind can you do? Like Bri? She pressed forward.

"No. Sabrina's magic is elemental, in keeping with the Golau. She's able to manipulate air, earth, fire and water. Mine's more visceral. Psionic, Levitation, some mind control, invincibility and –"

"Wait. Isn't immortality and invincibility the same thing? And what's psionic?"

"Immortality tends to refer to a type of longevity in our case. Invincibility means I can't be killed. Hurt? Possibly. But killed? Doubtful."

"Arrogant much/"

"Hey, you asked. And it's not arrogance. It's genetics."

"How many women have you slept with?" She changed the topic so quickly, he choked again.

"I'm sorry?"

"You probably are. But I read some of Alex's journals Bri brought me. He's pretty candid about some of his recreational pursuits. I mean not full word porn or anything, his numbers were high. You're the same age, right? More or less? So, appease my need to know. How many?"

"Why?" Mordred frowned, crossing arms across his bare chest. The towel around his hips did nothing to stop the growing hard on she unexpectedly gave him. What was it about her? Nothing outstanding. Awkward as hell. She didn't have a single elegant bone in her body but he sure had one he'd like to give her.

"Why not? Humor me. I'm a curious kitty."

"Not that it's any of your business but none."

"Dude? Really? You're telling me you’re a virg?" Jennie gaped at him, aquamarine eyes narrowing.

"Didn't say that. We have sex. Then they leave or I leave but I sleep alone."

She snorted up at him, fingers tugging at a strand of loose hair in her face. "Okay. Well. How many women have you had sex with then?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"Why don't you want to tell me?"

"If I tell you, will you shut up?"

"Maybe. Worth a shot." She shrugged. "So, how many?"

"I don't know, Jenalyn. Let's round up. Say...a few thousand?" Lies. Lies. It's actually under twenty.

She gawked at him, lips working, gaping like a fish. "You are such a mo."

"What the hell is a mo?"

"Women who sleep around a lot are called ho's. Short for whores. But you're a man. And you're a whore. A man ho. A mo. You need to get tested. You probably have Verpes or something."

"Verpes?"

"Yeah. Hello. Vampire herpes."

Born on the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous,I am the illegitimate love child of Han Solo and  Daenerys Targaryen. Rescued by Gandalf shortly before my home planet was destroyed in the last days of the Clone Wars, I was raised in relative obscurity by my foster parents, Severus Snape and Pippi Longstocking. At the tender age of 113, I inherited the best little whorehouse in Texas and it's been rumored that I am bringing Sexy Back. A self- confessed chocoholic, I've been engaged to Willy Wonka for several years despite gossip surrounding millionaire Bruce Wayne and myself.

And clearly, I practice delusion on a daily basis.

Fact is nowhere as fun as fiction!

Growing up, I could be found nearby falling down rabbit holes, catching second stars to the right, and stepping through wardrobes into mysterious lands and countless adventures. When those stories ended, I made up her own and kept going. This later on translated into a strong passion for writing that has helped keep my feet on the ground while my head stayed firmly in the clouds.

My first brush with romance novels came at the tender age of 8 when I filched a Barbara Cartland dog eared paperback from my unassuming aunt and fell into a world of magic, wonder and entirely innocent G rated writing. (Seriously, the farthest Dame Cartland ever took any romantic scene was a chaste kiss and that generally didn’t occur until the very end.) I went on to greedily consume Johanna Lindsey, Jude Devereaux and Anne Rice when older.

Now, I'm a middle aged woman with moxie, no shame and a vivid imagination who loves to write and share her crazy with the world. Her future plans include, hopefully, buying a lovely Scottish castle and convincing Queen Elizabeth I that I'd make a fab addition to the Royal Family.

I live in Southern California, a stone's throw from Disneyland, with my family and the most ridiculously spoiled pets anyone could imagine. My goals are simple: Keep reading, keep writing and never lose the determination to make life as random, quirky and beautiful as it can be.

The Taming of Violet

Series: Masiello Brothers Book 1
Genre: BBW Romance
Cover by: Morningstar Ashley (Five Star Designs)

Giovanni Masiello loved his job as a firefighter. It was the family tradition for three generations, and he and his seven brothers did their job with pride. While his personal and professional life were where he wanted them to be, his love life sucked. And it was all his weird neighbor’s fault.

Violet Canne thought the best when she blasted death metal and screamed along at the top of her lungs. While she looked unassuming in her flowery dresses and Mary Jane’s, she lived in a constant state of irritation. She smiled all day at her job while envisioning plucking out her client’s eyes. Not the attitude for an event planner. One bad day at work and she went feral taking out her infuriating neighbor and ended up in handcuffs. And not in the fun, sexy way either.

On Turning 40, When You're Not Supposed To Be Here

Birthday are typically a time of celebration. Mine are more a moment of reflection. I'm not supposed to be here. I should've drawn in my last breath years ago. Milestones. A new year. A goal surpassed and a new one formed.

I found alcohol and drugs in my teens. They made me feel numb when all else was chaotic. They were my razor when I couldn't quite pull the metaphorical trigger. I had and still have a death wish, I won't deny it and will freely admit it. Death doesn't scare me and that may the most terrifying thing because we're supposed to have a healthy fear of being no more. I want to die. Not every day, but there are moments I just sit and wonder would the world be better without me in it.

#New #Covers The New Faces of Executioners

GHOST (BOOK 1)

Gideon Jane earned the name Ghost for his reclusive nature when he joined a group of guys in Powers, Georgia in a band called Executioners. It had been his way of settling into small town life after living in New York for the past twenty years. He loved the band and his small organic farm. What he didn’t love was being single, but it appeared it was his new reality. He didn’t want his ex back, although he did want something. What that was eluded him until the evening he walked into Nightingale’s Books.

Small town girl Harper Sage knew pain and she’d lived with it—she had the scars both mental and physical to prove it. It would’ve been easier to hop in her car to find safety and anonymity, but Harper stayed to prove she was stronger than hurled fists and bruising prejudice. She found herself within the safety of a close-knit Bohemian community that lived on the outskirts of her town and with her straight best friend since third grade.

What’s a girl to do when she craves normalcy and acceptance: she just smiles. Choices are made, some with dire consequences and others that bring her closer to her dream. Will she make the right decision or finally discover escape is her best option?
